Trollstigen – Land of Trolls
A sightseeing tour of about six hours from Ålesund to Gudbrandsjuvet, Trollstigen and the Troll Wall: pick a date and book.
About this tour
The bus takes you from Ålesund through Norwegian villages to the Land of Trolls. The first stop is Kokarsteinen, just above the fjord. On the way you pass Sjøholt, known for its furniture and wood industry, and Valldal, known for its strawberries.
The next stop is Gudbrandsjuvet, a ravine 5 m narrow and 20-25 m high, where you can walk across to the other side on the bridge. Then the bus drives to Trollstigen, with its view of the mountain road and its hairpin turns.
On the way down the road there is a photo stop at Stigefossen, a waterfall with a total height of 240 m. The last stop is the Troll Wall (Trollveggen), Europe's tallest vertical rock face. From there the bus drives back to Ålesund via Åndalsnes.
Trollstigen is an old mountain road where rock falls and landslides can happen, so the road authorities may close it suddenly. If that happens, you still reach the viewpoint at the top of the road, coming from the south, and see all the stops except the Troll Wall. The Trollstigen road is closed during winter, and depending on the weather we may have to use an alternative road.
Itinerary
- Departure: Ålesund pier.
- Kokarsteinen: photo stop along the Storfjord, after passing Sjøholt.
- Gudbrandsjuvet: photo stop, via Stordal and Valldal.
- Trollstigen plateau: a longer stop. Food and drinks can be bought in the shop and cafeteria.
- Stigefossen waterfall: photo stop on the way down from the plateau.
- Troll Wall: a place known among mountain climbers and BASE jumpers.
- Arrival: Ålesund pier.
The order of the stops may vary.
Meeting point
Meeting point is on the Prestebrygga Cruise Pier. You will see a large rusty/brownish coloured building on the pier. It is NOT the newly painted orange building. The bus will be parked next to it. Your guide will be wearing a blue jacket. The company name is "EXCURSIONS.NO".
